Young people demonstrate, demanding justice for Mohbad’s death.

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has stated that the police will investigate the petition made by the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, against music promoter, Samson Balogun, aka Sam Larry.

A petition from Mohbad had emerged online, alleging threats to his life by Sam Larry and others shortly after the singer’s death.

The petition claimed that Sam Larry and 15 others had disrupted a video shoot involving Mohbad and another artist, Zlatan Ibile, unleashing violence. In response to this, the FPRO tweeted, “We will look into the alleged police negligence on this case” while sharing a copy of the petition on his social media page.

The Lagos Annex of the Force Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2, had disclosed that it had invited Sam Larry and others after receiving the petition on June 27. However, Mohbad was absent during the invitation.

Regarding Mohbad’s absence, Adejobi mentioned, “We also need to know why he declined the invitation or appearance at the office. There are many things to find out and clarify. And all will be done.”

Mohbad, a former singer on Marlian Records owned by Naira Marley, died last week under questionable circumstances, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into his death.

Meanwhile, a protest occurred in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital, as hundreds of youths demanded justice for Mohbad’s sudden death. The protesters wore black T-shirts and carried placards with various inscriptions, calling for justice and investigations into the singer’s demise. They also demanded the police bring Naira Marley and Sam Larry to justice, along with others mentioned in connection with Mohbad’s death.

The youths challenged Naira Marley and Sam Larry to come out of hiding and face the Nigerian youth. The Nigerian police force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other related organizations were present to ensure the protest remained peaceful.

Similar rallies demanding justice for the late singer took place in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, and Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State. In Akure, mourners wearing black shirts marched through the streets, while those in Ado Ekiti gathered at the Fuji Pavilion area, holding candles and demanding justice.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to participate in investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The governor extended his condolences to the family and fans of the late singer and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation.

Additionally, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has written to the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, requesting a coroner’s inquest into the musician’s death, which occurred on September 12, 2023, with burial the following day. Falana’s letter to the Chief Coroner seeks a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
