Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, popularly known as Blackface, a veteran singer-songwriter and former member of Plantashun Boiz, has accused Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake of stealing his intellectual property. Blackface claimed that the trio used samples of his songs without obtaining his permission.
During a recent interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Blackface pointed out that the song “Ginger” by Wizkid and Burna Boy is a sample of his track “Twist & Turn,” with only minor changes made to the verses. He also accused Asake of sampling his song “Ikebe Supa” in the song “Joha.”
While Blackface stated that he doesn’t mind young artists being inspired by his work and using samples, he expressed concern about the lack of permission and proper credit given for the usage of his intellectual property.
