Renowned Nigerian singer, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known as Ruger, has stated that he has no intention of taking action against a Kenyan individual who is impersonating him in East Africa.
The impersonator, referred to as “Fake Ruger,” has been performing Ruger’s songs at various events in Kenya. Ruger, in response to this, expressed his well-wishes for the impersonator, stating that he is essentially promoting his songs.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the ‘Asiwaju’ singer remarked, “I wish him [‘Fake Ruger’] well, man. I’m happy for him. I won’t shut him down. He’s making his P’s [money]. Everybody must eat.”
Ruger’s team had brought the impersonator to his attention, but Ruger chose not to take any action. Instead, he viewed the impersonator as someone trying to make a living. Ruger noted that the impersonator was essentially promoting his songs by performing them, even though he wasn’t creating his own music and attributing it to Ruger.
In the end, Ruger emphasized that the most important thing is that people are enjoying and streaming his songs, and he encouraged everyone to remain calm about the situation.
