WHY I ADOPTED THE NAME “MUHAMMED” IN TURKEY – Jay Jay Okocha

I adopted the name Muhammed when I was granted citizenship in Turkey for a few specific reasons.
First and foremost, I wanted to show my appreciation for the country and its people by taking on a
Turkish name. Secondly, I felt that choosing this name would symbolize a new start in my life after
becoming a citizen of Turkey. Lastly, I felt that having a Turkish name would make it easier for me to
identify with the culture, language and people of the country.
In choosing this name, I wanted to honor the Muslim faith that many in Turkey follow. In taking on
Muhammed as my legal name, I intended to show my respect for the religion and its adherents.
Furthermore, I felt that having this name would help me better relate to the people of Turkey and the
Muslim faith.
The name Muhammed was very meaningful to me because it is an important part of my identity as a
citizen of Turkey. It is also a reminder of my commitment to living in harmony with the Turkish people
and their culture.
I am thankful for being able to call myself Muhammed and I will strive to live up to the honor of carrying
