“Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress and the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, has made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to retain Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, in his ministerial lineup. Although Tinubu nominated El-Rufai for a ministerial role, the Senate declined to confirm the appointment, reportedly due to a security report.
Okechukwu, speaking to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, emphasized the value that El-Rufai would bring to Tinubu’s administration, particularly in the power sector. He expressed concern that removing El-Rufai from the system could result in more Nigerians being disconnected from the national electricity grid. Okechukwu highlighted the need for someone like El-Rufai, equipped to address the challenges in the energy industry, as the nation faces power supply issues and high tariffs. Okechukwu acknowledged that while he’s not blindly endorsing El-Rufai, he recognized his capabilities and expertise, especially in transforming the electricity chain and cleaning up the energy industry.”
