“NDLEA and UK’s National Crime Agency join forces to combat drug cartels”

“The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting drug cartels as part of their collaborative efforts to eliminate organized crime in Nigeria and the UK.

This commitment was emphasized during the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, July 4. Buba Marwa, Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, and David Cater, Regional Manager, West Africa, NCA, expressed their dedication to this partnership.

Marwa stated that the renewed MoU would enhance intelligence-driven operations, enabling the agencies to target and apprehend even the most elusive criminal networks, regardless of their hiding places.

He expressed optimism about the NCA’s forthcoming project with the agency’s rebranded Criminal Intelligence Task Force (CITF), anticipating that it would provide specialized capabilities to effectively target and disrupt drug trafficking cartels not only in Nigeria but also in the wider West Africa region.

Marwa extended gratitude to the government of the United Kingdom for its continued technical support and acknowledged the commendable efforts of the dedicated UK NCA personnel, which serve as an inspiration to the agency’s CITF officials in their fight against serious organized crime.

Marwa emphasized that organized crime is a complex and ever-evolving threat that knows no borders, necessitating proactive measures in intelligence management and capability enhancement to counter transnational criminal syndicates. He stressed the significance of sustaining the renewal of the MoU as a milestone in their joint efforts to combat organized crime. Cater echoed the importance of renewing the MoU, emphasizing its significance for the NDLEA and NCA’s ongoing collaboration. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the NDLEA for their support and confidence in the partnership, assuring them of the ongoing project’s continued support to ensure success in their shared objectives.”
