The General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, expressed his views on the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, stating that Mohbad associated with individuals of ill repute during his lifetime.
Pastor Bakare pointed out that Mohbad seemed unaware of the brevity of life and engaged in “drinking and smoking” while “reaping the consequences of his unhealthy lifestyle” when he was alive.
These remarks were made during his speech at the 2nd anniversary celebration of The Envoy Nation, a United Kingdom-based church, on Sunday.
The Nigerian music industry mourned the passing of Mohbad on September 12, with his burial taking place the following day in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. However, the circumstances surrounding his death have stirred controversy on social media.
Addressing the late artist, Pastor Bakare raised questions about the choices Mohbad made in his life and asked, “Is Mohbad a good name?”
He shared, “My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know Mohbad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? Mohbad. When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth. I am not blaming him; I am just telling you. Is Mohbad a good name? Mohbad.”
The Lagos State Police Command has conducted an autopsy on Mohbad’s exhumed body to investigate the cause of his death. Additionally, last week saw thousands of protesters in various parts of Nigeria, including Lagos, Delta, and Ogun, demanding justice for the late singer. In Lagos, a candlelight procession was held in his honor in areas like Lekki and Muri Okunola.
