Tuggar has highlighted that Tinubu’s foreign policy will be steered by the principles of the “four Ds.”

During his address to the Ministry’s staff on Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar revealed his administration’s guiding policy, known as the “four Ds,” which focuses on “Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora.” This comprehensive initiative aims to provide modern solutions to tackle intricate challenges.

Speaking on his vision for the Ministry on his first day in office, Tuggar pledged to introduce a new foreign policy that would reposition Nigeria as a key player in visionary and global decision-making. He expressed this during his remarks in Abuja following the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, where he and other Ministers took their oaths of office.

Tuggar emphasized that these “Four Ds” will shape his Foreign Policy approach for Nigeria, emphasizing “Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora,” all geared towards addressing complex issues with innovative solutions.

Furthermore, the Minister assured that the Ministry would undergo restructuring to effectively fulfill its role in advancing Nigeria’s interests and safeguarding citizens abroad. He also extended reassurance to Nigerians in the Diaspora, pledging to address their concerns.

Tuggar expressed gratitude for the honor of serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and recognized the historical significance of the Ministry. He stressed the importance of upholding the high standards that the Ministry represents and acknowledged the challenges faced, including ongoing political crises in Niger Republic and regional economic insecurity.

The Minister shared his intention to unveil a new vision for Nigeria’s foreign policy based on the “four D’s” doctrine—centered around development, democracy, demography, and Diaspora. He conveyed his confidence in achieving these goals through cooperation, partnership, and the support of the staff. Tuggar expressed his belief that with concerted efforts, Nigeria can regain its place at the forefront of global decision-making.

In his welcome remarks, Adamu Lamuwa, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, extended a warm reception to the Minister and assured him of the wholehearted backing of the ministry’s staff in executing his strategic endeavors for Nigeria’s foreign policy.

Lamuwa affirmed, “Our collective commitment is to work alongside you and the government in formulating and executing Nigeria’s foreign policy. We are delighted to have a leader with extensive experience in the field of diplomacy and foreign policy, which makes him well-versed in these matters. We express our gratitude to both Allah and President Bola Tinubu for appointing him, as our prayers for a minister who can hit the ground running have been answered. With unwavering determination, we pledge our support to propel Nigeria’s foreign policy to new heights,” Lamuwa stated.
