Tinubu pledges to assist Google in its job creation initiatives in Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed the Federal Government’s willingness to support Google Incorporated in its endeavor to create one million digital jobs in Nigeria. During the visit of Google Global Vice President, Mr. Richard Gingras, to the State House on Friday, Tinubu commended Google for partnering with Nigeria and acknowledged the country’s talented and motivated young population, especially in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The president assured Google of the government’s support in promoting digital innovation and the digital economy. He emphasized the importance of defending free speech and press freedom, stating that the government is committed to supporting a free society.

Richard Gingras, in turn, informed Tinubu that Google had a deep interest in Nigeria and was impressed by the creativity and talent of the country’s young people in utilizing technology to expand access to information and promote democracy. He mentioned Google’s capabilities in Artificial Intelligence and other digital innovations that empower young entrepreneurs. Additionally, Gingras highlighted Google’s commitment to help secure Nigeria from disinformation and fake news, expressing a desire to continue the partnership with the Nigerian government.

Accompanying Gingras on the visit were Mr. Adewolu Adene, Government and Public Affairs Manager for Google in West Africa, and Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher of Premium Times.
