Tinubu Demands Palliative: “Tinubu calls for a revision of the N8,000 household palliative.”

  • Post category:Politics

President Bola Tinubu has instructed a reevaluation of the N8,000 palliative initially allocated to 12 million households for six months, following public concerns expressed by Nigerians. The government has not addressed the allocation of N70 billion to lawmakers from the N500 billion set aside for interventions to offset the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

A statement from Dele Alake, the President’s special adviser on special duties, communications, and strategy, emphasized that the welfare and security of Nigerians are paramount in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the government. The proposed conditional cash transfer to vulnerable households affected by the subsidy removal has been widely reported, but misconceptions and criticisms about the program have arisen.

In response to the feedback, President Tinubu directed an immediate review of the N8,000 conditional cash transfer scheme and called for the unveiling of the entire palliative package. He also ensured the release of fertilizers and grains to approximately 50 million farmers and households across the nation.

The President remains committed to prioritizing the wellbeing of Nigerians, as demonstrated by previous decisions taken to address concerns from the business community, leading to the cancellation and suspension of certain taxes. Furthermore, he established a Tax Reform/Fiscal Policy Committee to create a conducive fiscal environment and remove barriers that hinder businesses.

President Tinubu reaffirmed that the relief benefits would be available to all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or political affiliations. He pledged to continue being a receptive leader, open to the opinions and needs of the citizens, as the government’s purpose is to serve the people’s best interests.
