Mohbad’s music has experienced a significant resurgence in popularity following his untimely passing on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. In the tracking week of September 29 to October 5, the Street Hop sensation emerged as the most streamed artist on YouTube Nigeria, amassing a remarkable 2.3 million cumulative views, as reported by TurnTable Charts, the only data aggregator in Nigeria that includes TV, radio, and streaming platforms.

Since his unfortunate demise, Mohbad’s music has seen a surge in listenership, with fans revisiting his unique blend of Juju, Hip Hop, Afrobeats, and Gospel music that vividly portrayed the realities of urban life. Notably, he achieved a remarkable feat by having six songs on the TurnTable Top 100, with his EPs ‘Blessed’ and ‘Light’ amassing substantial streaming numbers. His single ‘Ask About Me’ even claimed the top spot on the chart.

The passing of Mohbad has triggered an outpouring of tributes and condolences, both from within Nigeria and internationally. Esteemed American rappers like Meek Mill, Lil Durk, and Kodak Black joined in paying their respects to the late artist.

In Nigeria, numerous candlelight processions have been held in Mohbad’s honor across different states. Notably, in Lagos, a procession took place at Muri Okunola Park, drawing the presence of prominent artists including Davido, Zlatan, Chike, Skales, and Falz.

Mohbad’s untimely death has sparked public outcry and allegations of foul play. Consequently, the Nigerian Police have initiated investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding his passing.
