The states of Kano, Lagos, and Kaduna experienced the highest numbers of NIN registrations and issuance.

Kano, Lagos, and Kaduna emerged as the top states for both registration and issuance of national identification numbers (NIN) in 2022, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Released on Monday, the National Identity Registration statistics report revealed that a total of 22,237,022 registrations were conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, along with 255,726 registrations in the diaspora.

Out of the overall 22,492,748 registrations, 12,643,563 were attributed to males, while 9,849,185 were linked to females.

The state breakdown highlights Kano, Lagos, and Kaduna as the leading three states with 2,444,224, 2,097,912, and 1,256,479 registrations, respectively. On the other end, Bayelsa, Ekiti, and Ebonyi recorded the lowest counts with 100,525, 141,534, and 165,375 respectively.

“The total registration and NIN issued stood at 22,492,748 in 2022, with 12,643,563 males and 9,849,185 females,” the report outlined.

“Diaspora registrations cover Nigeria nationals residing in other countries. The registrations and NIN issued to diaspora stood at 255,726 in 2022, with 140,496 males and 115,230 females,” the report elaborated.

In terms of regional distribution, the North-West had the highest registrations and NIN issuance at 7,207,695, followed by the South-West with 4,825,143.

The South-East, in contrast, experienced the lowest registrations and NIN issuance at 1,793,373.

The report further delves into specific state-level distributions. Niger state emerged with the most registrations and NIN issuance in the North-Central region with 368,131 males and 229,047 females. Meanwhile, Kogi state reported the least with 163,721 males and 144,960 females.

The North-East saw Bauchi state leading in registrations and NIN issuance with 476,042 males and 288,184 females, while Taraba state recorded the least with 202,471 males and 132,470 females.

Kano state secured the top spot in the North-West with 1,322,194 male registrations and 1,122,030 female registrations, while Zamfara state held the lowest with 358,029 males and 125,228 females.

Moving to the South-East, Abia state led with 359,119 male registrations and 154,375 female registrations, while Ebonyi state reported the lowest with 90,346 males and 75,029 females.

In the South-South region, Rivers state took the lead with 338,291 male registrations and 310,198 female registrations, whereas Bayelsa state had the lowest counts with 58,063 males and 42,462 females.

Lastly, Lagos state secured the highest registrations and NIN issuance in the South-West with 1,104,042 males and 993,870 females, while Ekiti state had the least with 76,199 males and 65,335 females.
