The police in Ogun State have arrested a total of 19 individuals suspected of being involved in various cult groups. These arrests are related to the recent cult clashes that resulted in eight fatalities in the Sagamu area of the state.

The Ogun State Police Command, in a statement provided by Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, announced that the arrests were made at different locations in Sagamu through the collaborative efforts of various police formations.

The statement revealed that among the arrested individuals was a suspected kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity, Ogunnibi Hammed, who was allegedly responsible for orchestrating attacks against rival cult groups in the state.

The operation was carried out by a combination of units within the police force, including the Special Weapons and Tactics team, the Anti-Cultism Unit, and the Obalende Division.

The statement noted, “All of these individuals have confessed to being active members of different cult groups.”

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered an immediate investigation into the arrested individuals, with the promise of providing updates to the public as the investigation progresses.

It’s worth noting that this action by the police is in response to the recent violence and cult clashes in the Sagamu area, where multiple lives were lost, leading to heightened security efforts to address the situation.
