The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the Federal Government is planning to invest in harmonizing the country’s data through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). This initiative aims to put an end to multiple ID registrations in the country.

During a meeting with the MTN management team led by CEO Karl Toriola in Abuja, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of establishing a tech-driven data hub within the Ministry of Interior. He highlighted the need for a comprehensive data center that would consolidate all identity information.

Tunji-Ojo stressed the significance of data harmonization, stating that it would enhance the integrity of travel documents and streamline the process for citizens. He mentioned that by harmonizing data, individuals would no longer need to repeat data capture procedures when applying for passports if they already possess a valid National Identity Number (NIN).

The minister explained that data harmonization would enable agencies to exchange information more efficiently. For instance, when citizens require data for passport applications or BVN (Bank Verification Number) with their NIN, the relevant data could be retrieved seamlessly.
