A farmer named Solomon Yusuf was allegedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen during a wedding ceremony in the Rakpami community of Toto Local Government Area (LGA) in Nasarawa State, according to a statement from the Secretary of Gbagyi Cultural Renaissance Foundation, Musa Emmanuel-Dnasuwa.

The statement expressed concern about the actions of these herdsmen, accusing them of disrupting the peace and committing acts of violence. It claimed that they frequently destroy crops and threaten the lives of those who confront them.

The incident involving Solomon Yusuf was cited as an example of their actions, with the assailants attacking him for reasons unknown. Although one suspect was reportedly arrested by the community vigilante and handed over to the police, the statement called for the law to take its course.

The statement also acknowledged the intervention of HRH Musa Abu-Shekwo, the Osu Yelwa, who helped calm the situation and prevent the youth from taking matters into their own hands. It called on the Executive Chairman of Toto LGA and Governor Abdullahi Sule to work with security agencies to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the area.

The Gbagyi Cultural Renaissance Foundation urged the government to address the issue promptly and avoid escalating tensions. It emphasized that the Gbagyi people are peace-loving but will not tolerate such excesses and called for measures to maintain peace in the community.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa State stated that the command had not received official information about the alleged killing. However, he assured residents that the Commissioner of Police was working to ensure the safety of everyone in the state.
