Moses Simon, the winger for Super Eagles, shared his thought process leading up to the remarkable goal that secured victory for Nantes against Clermont Foot.
Simon netted an incredible goal, arguably the standout goal of the weekend, propelling Nantes to a narrow 1-0 win over Clermont, marking Nantes’ first triumph of the season.
The match, played on the challenging terrain of Stade Gabriel Montpied, remained level at halftime with few scoring opportunities.
However, just three minutes into the second half, Simon broke the deadlock. Capitalizing on Clermont’s goalkeeper Mory Diaw’s misplaced back pass, which left him stranded, Simon executed a first-time finish that sailed over the helpless goalie and into the net, ultimately deciding the closely contested match.
Discussing the goal in a post-match interview on Prime Video (as reported by Tribune Nantais), Simon explained, “I noticed that the goalkeeper was advancing, even in the first half. We had this opportunity, and we had to take advantage of it.”
He added, “This initial victory was long overdue and holds great significance for everyone, including the fans. We must continue our efforts to keep progressing.”
With this victory, Nantes now has five points from their first five games, elevating them to the 15th position in the league table. Ligue 1 leaders Monaco currently hold 11 points.
