Shutting Ekpa: Ohanaeze advises Tinubu on silencing Simon Ekpa in the South-East.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo socio-cultural group, has provided President Bola Tinubu with a suggestion on how to address the activities of Simon Ekpa, who is based in Finland, in the South-East region.
According to Alex Ogbonnia, the spokesperson for Ohanaeze, the way to silence Ekpa is for President Tinubu to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
Ogbonnia asserted that Kanu’s release would alleviate the tension in the South-East, stating, “Once he (Kanu) is released, individuals like Simon Ekpa would have no further reason to voice their opinions. No one can use Nnamdi Kanu as an excuse to incite violence in the country.”
He further explained that Kanu’s arrest, coupled with social inequalities in the region, has been the driving force behind the agitation in the South-East. Ogbonnia emphasized that if Kanu is released, Ekpa would lose his justification for causing unrest in the region.
“We have consistently advocated for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. We believe that the issues surrounding his arrest have contributed to the ongoing agitation. The current situation in the South-East is a result of the social injustices experienced in the region,” Ogbonnia added.
He also emphasized that resolving the Nnamdi Kanu issue would require a diplomatic and political solution, rather than merely prosecuting and imprisoning him, as such actions would only fuel more demands and exacerbate the situation.
