The immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, and a former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, marked his 60th birthday on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
Fashola, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was in a happy mood as he welcomed the incumbent governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, into his home in Lagos. They were both dressed in white attire, while a live band serenaded guests.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat; and the First Lady of the state, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; were also present to rejoice with the birthday boy.
Fashola’s wife, Abimbola, glowed in her green outfit as she beamed with her signature smile. Her husband could also not hide his excitement as he exchanged banters with guests.
Celebrating Fashola, Sanwo-Olu had written on social media, “On behalf of my adorable wife, Ibijoke, the government and good people of Lagos State, as well as leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, I heartily congratulate one of my predecessors in office, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), on the occasion of his diamond jubilee birthday.
“Mr Fashola is worth celebrating at 60; not only by the people of Lagos State, but the whole of Nigeria, because of the remarkable impact he has made in his legal profession, politics and governance for the benefit of the country.”
In his remarks, Fashola said, “Thank you very much. May God continue to honour you and honour us.”
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, also had kind words for Fashola. In a statement released to journalists, he wrote, “Babatunde Fashola possesses the qualities that have helped leaders across the world to succeed. That is why he has been successful in every position he has occupied in the country. “As a Chief of Staff to the former governor of Lagos State, President Bola Tinubu, Fashola played key roles in the success of that administration. It is also noteworthy that his eight years as governor brought great fortunes to our dear state. A legal icon of repute, our dear Fashola became a celebrated minister in the last eight years, helping the government he served to achieve so much in the area of infrastructural development.”
