Saka out of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy

Bukayo Saka will not be participating in England’s upcoming matches against Australia and Italy, as confirmed by the English Football Association on Monday. Gareth Southgate had included the 22-year-old Arsenal winger in the 26-man squad last week, but he was absent from Sunday’s 1-0 victory against Manchester City due to a hamstring problem he had been struggling with in recent games.
In a statement, the FA stated, “On Monday, Saka joined the rest of the Three Lions’ squad at St George’s Park. After missing Arsenal’s Premier League win against Manchester City on Sunday due to injury, the England medical team assessed Saka and decided that he should continue his recovery at his club.”
No replacements are expected to be called up, as Gareth Southgate will continue working with the remaining 25 players in the squad. England is scheduled to host Australia in a friendly at Wembley on Friday, followed by a Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy at the national stadium on October 17.
