“Sporting Lagos triumphed in two matches, while Heartland’s challenging start to the season persisted. In the most recent Nigeria Football League (NPFL) fixtures held at six different venues nationwide on Sunday, the home teams emerged victorious, resulting in a total of 17 goals scored.”

Sporting Lagos return to winning ways

“Sporting Lagos bounced back from their previous weekend’s defeat to Remo Stars with a 2-1 victory over Niger Tornadoes at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday evening.

Jonathan Alukwu and Junior Lokosa scored for the hosts, while substitute Yahuza Bala netted a consolation goal for the visitors.

The first opportunity to score for Sporting Lagos came in the 16th minute when Jonathan Alukwu’s well-placed pass was deflected for a corner. Just five minutes later, Clement Naantuam’s shot narrowly missed the target after a rebound.

The opening goal arrived in the 26th minute when Alukwu converted Akpesiri Naibe’s cross. Junior Lokosa extended the lead in the 45th minute with a delicate lob over Niger Tornadoes’ goalkeeper, Joshua Enabolo.

Niger Tornadoes managed to pull one back in the 71st minute, thanks to substitute Yahuza Bala.”

Oriental Derby

“In the Oriental derby held in Umuahia, Abia Warriors secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Heartland of Owerri. Meme Okike’s goal in the eighth minute proved to be the difference as it handed the struggling Naze Millionaires their second loss in their opening five matches. Abia Warriors climbed to fifth place in the league standings with nine points earned from five games.”

“In Port Harcourt, Rivers United halted Lobi Stars’ previously unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory. Lobi Stars had gone four matches without a loss, but Alex Oyowah’s 42nd-minute goal proved to be the difference for the home team. This defeat saw Lobi Stars drop to seventh place with eight points, while Rivers United secured their second win of the season, moving up to 10th place.

Over at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Shooting Stars came from behind to defeat Dom United 3-1. Doma United took the lead eight minutes into the game with Nelson Abiam’s strike, but the Oluyole Warriors equalized with a penalty from Adelowo Gbolagade just before halftime. Kareem Ayinde put 3SC ahead in the 60th minute, and Gideon Monday added the third goal in the 93rd minute.

This victory propelled Shooting Stars to second place with 10 points, just behind Enugu Rangers, who have the same point tally but a superior goal difference.

Katsina United and Bayelsa United also bounced back to winning ways in their respective matches. Katsina United secured a 3-2 comeback victory over Sunshine Stars, while Robert Mizo’s double helped Bayelsa United secure their second home win of the season against Kwara United.”
