Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), one of Nigeria’s prominent Electricity Distribution Companies, has taken steps to enhance critical infrastructure and improve service to its valued customers in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. Recently, IE replaced a faulty 15MVA power transformer at the Sabo Injection Substation (ISS) with a new one.
Engr. Olajide Kumapayi, Chief Technical Officer at Ikeja Electric, emphasized the necessity of replacing the faulty power transformer, which amounted to over N250 million. This replacement aims to address the challenges of inadequate power supply faced by more than fifteen thousand customers who were receiving power from the malfunctioning transformer one (T1) at Sabo Injection Substation before its complete failure. The replacement is expected to increase power availability from the previous three hours to a minimum of twelve hours daily, based on the service band tariff class associated with the feeders.
Engr. Kumapayi explained that nine 11kv feeders were supplied from Sabo Injection Substation through two power transformers, serving communities such as Ayangburen, Lasunwon, Lagos Road, Marie, Ladega, Erunwen, Igbogbo, Ijebu-Ode, Eyita, and their surroundings. Additionally, he mentioned that the construction of a new Injection Substation at the Lagos State University of Technology (LASUTECH) in Ikorodu will soon commence. This new substation will provide one dedicated 11kv feeder for LASUTECH and two extra feeders to alleviate the load on Erunwen and Ijebu-Ode 11kv feeders at the Sabo Injection Substation.
Engr. Kumapayi assured that these investments will optimize the use of technical assets to ensure broader access to power across all affected feeders, aligning with their commitment to meet the demands of their valued customers.
Kingsley Okotie, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, expressed IE’s dedication to improving service delivery to customers throughout their network coverage area. He extended gratitude to vigilant customers, community leaders, and security personnel who have played a role in protecting electrical equipment in their neighborhoods against theft, vandalism, and sabotage. Failure to protect these assets would jeopardize the company’s efforts to sustainably power livelihoods, businesses, and communities.
