Just one year after relegation, Kano Pillars have successfully made their way back to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Despite a 1-0 loss to Katsina United in their final group game of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Eight playoff, Kano Pillars secured their promotion to the top-flight league. Victor Mboama’s goal made the difference in the match held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Wednesday.

Interestingly, the result worked in favor of both Katsina United and Kano Pillars as they both secured spots in the NPFL for the upcoming season. These two teams emerged as the top two in the northern conference half of the playoff, with Kano Pillars finishing ahead on goal difference.

In the southern conference, Heartland FC of Owerri overcame a goal deficit to defeat Sporting Lagos and secure their promotion to the NPFL. Although Sporting had already secured their place in the top flight for the next season, the loss saw them finish behind Heartland in the group.

The final playoff match, scheduled for Friday, will witness a face-off between the top teams from both groups, Heartland and Kano Pillars.

It is worth noting that Kano Pillars, Heartland, and Katsina United were relegated to the NNL on the last day of the 2021/22 season.
