“An unfortunate incident unfolded in Delta State on Tuesday, where a reported fatality and three missing individuals marked the aftermath of an oil rig collapse near Ovhor. The collapsed rig, named Majestic, was managed by Nigerian oil firm Depthwize, and was engaged under contract by the Seplat/Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited joint venture at the time of the incident.
The collapse transpired in the early hours of the day as the rig was being transported to its designated drilling location at Ovhor in Delta State. Seplat’s CEO, Roger Brown, confirmed the occurrence via email, stating, “Out of the 96-member crew, 92 individuals have been accounted for and are safe. Unfortunately, one crew member lost his life during the incident, while three others remain missing at this juncture.”
Brown expressed his condolences, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the crew member who tragically lost his life and the three crew members who are still unaccounted for as of now.” Seplat disclosed that it promptly initiated its emergency and rescue response efforts in collaboration with the rig’s owner and relevant authorities.
