Nigerians only receive burden, taxes – Kate Henshaw slams senators over holiday allowances

Renowned Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has asserted that impoverished Nigerians are receiving nothing but additional taxes and hardships in their lives, contrasting it with the Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s comment about sending “prayers” to lawmakers’ accounts during a recess.

Henshaw’s remarks come in response to Akpabio’s assurance during a plenary session that a small amount had been deposited into lawmakers’ accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly to facilitate their holiday enjoyment.

However, Akpabio later rephrased his statement, describing the allocation as “prayers” sent to their “mailboxes”. This linguistic shift was met with criticism, especially on social media, where many accused lawmakers of being indifferent to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

Expressing her discontent, Kate Henshaw highlighted the apparent disregard that lawmakers exhibit towards the welfare of impoverished citizens. She voiced her disillusionment by saying, “The only ‘prayers’ reaching Nigerians are more taxes, additional burdens, a directive to ‘grin and bear it,’ and an attitude of ‘we don’t care.’ Wishing a pleasant holiday to those who are meant to serve and provide relief to their constituents. We are not moved by your actions.”

She concluded her statement by contemplating the potential consequences of such actions, adding, “What’s the worst that can happen? Good morning.”
