Nigerian Police Arrest Suspected Killer Of Enugu State Lawmaker, Launch Manhunt For Gang Members

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect, a member of a criminal gang allegedly involved in the attack and murder of Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta, the Councillor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona Council Ward. The incident occurred on July 16, 2023, around 11:30 PM at Umualoji Village in Ehalumona community.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, the Commissioner of Police ordered a discreet investigation and manhunt for the assailants.

Nelson Sylvester, popularly known as Ofunwa, was killed at his residence in Eha-Alumonah community by unknown gunmen. After being shot, he sought refuge in a nearby compound, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. His body has been deposited in the morgue, and the police have been briefed on the incident.

Celestine Odoagu, a community leader, stated that they suspect the attack was an assassination, but they await the police’s official findings to confirm their suspicions. The tragic incident has left the community in deep agony and fear.
