Nigerian Man ‘Goes Blind’ During Bizarre Attempt To Break Guinness World Record By Crying For 7 Days

Tembu Ebere, a Nigerian man, has confirmed that he partially lost his sight while attempting to set a record in the Guinness World Records by crying continuously for seven days. The trend of achieving endurance feats has been spreading across Nigeria since May, when chef Hilda Baci officially broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), lasting for 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Ebere, who experienced health issues during his record attempt, disclosed to BBC that he pushed himself to cry non-stop for seven days but ended up with temporary blindness. Along the way, he faced headaches, puffy eyes, and a swollen face, and at one point, his vision was impaired for 45 minutes.

Despite the challenges he encountered, Ebere was determined to complete his planned one-week crying marathon. Guinness World Records has witnessed a surge in record-breaking attempts from Nigeria following the attention garnered by Hilda Baci’s cooking marathon.

However, the Guinness World Records organization recently issued a warning, urging the country to refrain from excessive record-breaking attempts. They expressed concern after suggestions were made for “idea-a-thon” and “puff-puff-a-thon” attempts, emphasizing the need to avoid an overwhelming number of such events.
