Nigerian footballers with 100-goal landmark

  • Post category:Sports

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has joined the distinguished ranks of Nigerian footballers who have achieved the milestone of scoring 100 goals for their respective clubs. This achievement came after Osimhen scored the opening goal in Napoli’s 2-0 victory against Sassuolo on Sunday in Serie A.

Interestingly, Osimhen achieved this feat against the same opponent, Sassuolo, on February 18, 2023.

Osimhen’s professional journey began with his debut at Wolfsburg in 2017, followed by stints at RSC Charleroi and Lille. He then moved to Napoli in 2020, amassing an impressive 62 goals in just 103 appearances for the Serie A team.

Before his move to Italy, the 24-year-old striker netted 18 goals in 38 matches while playing for Lille and added another 20 goals in 36 games for Charleroi.

Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s victory in the Serie A last season, marking their first championship win in thirty years. While Osimhen is the latest Nigerian to reach this significant goal-scoring milestone, it’s worth acknowledging other Nigerian players who have achieved this feat.

PUNCH Sports Extra highlights several other Nigerian footballers who have scored over 100 goals for their clubs, including Rashidi Yekini, Cyriel Dessers, Odion Ighalo, Asisat Oshoala, Obafemi Martins, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Jonathan Akpoborie, Osaze Odemwingie, Ikechukwu Uche, Kanu Nwankwo, Victor Ikpeba, John Utaka, Perpetua Nkwocha, and Mercy Akide.
