“The Nigeria Football Federation is currently engaged in discussions with Jose Peseiro regarding a fresh contract as the national coach.
“His previous contract came to an end in July, and we are currently in talks with him and his legal representatives,” stated NFF President Ibrahim Gusau on Wednesday.
Peseiro had been operating on a one-year contract. Gusau explained that negotiations were delayed due to the postponement of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which the contract was based upon.
The tournament is now scheduled for January and February. Peseiro has successfully guided Nigeria to qualification with one match still remaining.
Sources indicate that the NFF is proposing a significant reduction in Peseiro’s monthly salary of $70,000 in the new contract, which is intended to extend at least until the conclusion of the competition in Ivory Coast.
“We anticipate reaching an agreement soon, and the final decision will be influenced by the recommendations of the technical committee,” Gusau added.
The Super Eagles will complete their qualifying campaign on September 10, playing against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.
Gusau also mentioned that Randy Waldrum’s contract, the coach of the country’s women’s team, has expired following their performance in reaching the Round of 16 at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
He noted that a decision about Waldrum’s future will need to be made soon, considering the team’s upcoming qualification campaign for the 2024 Paris Olympics next month.”
