The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the just concluded presidential elections, Mr. Peter
Obi, has reiterated that he is never afraid of the lies and propaganda against his person. In a series of
tweets, the former governor of Anambra State stated that as human beings, we all make mistakes.
According to him, “I will never knowingly break any law,…”
Obi has faced series of mudslinging from the opposition parties, mostly the All Progressives Alliance
(APC). He has been accused of various things without the requisite evidence. During the campaigns, so
many things were said against him because of his popularity. In all of these, no one has been able to
point to breaking of the law by the labour party flagbearer. His records as a governor is just Unafrican
and unNigerian. As governor of Anambra State, he paid the debt the state was owing. He is also reputed
to be the first governor in the history of Nigeria to leave whooping sums of money for his predecessor.
There is no governor that has left money for their predecessor. What they always leave are humongous
debts, after stealing their states dry.
Obi comes into the political terrain of Nigeria with clean hands. In a nation where stealing and scamming
others is very high, he has been able to raise his head above these criminal activities. This does not really
go down well with the opposition, who are doing everything to bring him down. His recent filing of a
petition at the election tribunal to retrieve his mandate has added fuel to the fire of hatred against him
by the opposition. In all these, he is loved by the ordinary Nigerian. His campaign mantra of moving
Nigeria from consumption to production, resonated so well with the populace that he was, and is still
treated as a pop star anywhere he goes. In a country where politics is seen as a do or die affair, where
political lies rule the landscape, Peter Obi is a breath of fresh air.
