Netflix Reveals ‘Jagun Jagun’ : “Presenting your initial glimpse of ‘Jagun Jagun,’ the latest Netflix production.”

Could this mark a triumph for the representation of African cultural narratives? Netflix has revealed the imminent release of a native film entitled “Jagun Jagun” (The Warrior). Produced by Femi Adebayo Salami, who also stars in the lead role, the movie chronicles the tale of a bloodthirsty warlord who perceives a young warrior as a threat, a man who seeks nothing more than power and the love of a woman.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami, “Jagun Jagun” boasts a talented cast that spans both Yoruba and English Nollywood genres, featuring notable actors and actresses like Adedimeji Lateef, Bimbo Ademoye, Fathia Balogun, Mr. Macaroni, and Bukunmi Oluwasina. The trailer promises a culturally rich Yoruba story, and the production is said to have spared no expense during its one-month shoot at a Southwest location in Nigeria.

Following the success of “King of Thieves,” which was also co-produced by Anthill Studios, various streaming platforms and cinema houses have shown increased interest in showcasing African cultural tales. Notable examples include Tunde Kelani’s “Ayinla,” Kunle Afolayan’s “Anikulapo,” Mo Abudu’s “Eleshin Oba,” Kola Odunlade’s “Òrìṣà,” which premiered on July 21, 2023, and now, “Jagun Jagun.”

Adebayo’s latest epic is set to premiere exclusively on the Netflix streaming platform on August 10, 2023.
