The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has expressed concern over the poor welfare conditions of judiciary officers across the country. The death of Justice Chima Nweze and John Mallong last week has highlighted the urgent need to review the working conditions of these officials.
NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, stated that the loss of judges and justices indicates neglect for their health conditions, which is unacceptable. He emphasized the necessity for an immediate review of their working conditions to address this issue.
During a condolence visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, and the family of the late Justice Chima Nweze, Maikyau conveyed his condolences and stated that the recent deaths underscore the need for improved welfare measures for judicial officers.
He reassured the family of Justice Nweze of the Bar’s support and readiness to fully participate in a fitting burial ceremony for the departed Supreme Court Justice.
Recently, Nigeria lost Supreme Court Justice Nweze and Federal High Court Judge Peter Mallong after brief illnesses.
