Some ad-hoc staff members who were employed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 general elections in the Agege local government area of Lagos State have not yet been paid, several months after the polls took place. Expressing their dissatisfaction to SaharaReporters, the staff members called on INEC to promptly settle their outstanding payments. Some of them even expressed regret for participating in the elections.
One of the ad-hoc staff members shared that he had repeatedly visited the INEC office in Agege with a printed bank account statement to demonstrate that he had not received his payment. However, as of Sunday, he had still not been paid his entitlements. The staff member, identified as Anede, emphasized that many others had faced similar issues and that even for the 2019 general elections, the local government had failed to pay any ad-hoc staff. They appealed to INEC to address the matter and fulfill their payment, as they had worked for it and were not begging for money.
