Liverpool rival United, PSG for Osimhen

Liverpool, the renowned English Premier League club, has entered the race to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Osimhen, 24, has garnered significant attention in the world of football after his impressive performance, scoring 31 goals in 39 games, contributed to Napoli winning the Serie A title for the first time in over 30 years. His achievements also led him to finish as the league’s top scorer.

Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea are reportedly also interested in acquiring the Nigerian player.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Liverpool is now prepared to compete with these teams for Osimhen’s signature, with offers expected to be made “in the coming days,” potentially sparking a bidding war.

However, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis’ valuation of Osimhen at over £150m could pose a challenge.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 for €70m and has since scored 59 goals in 101 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool is said to be interested in Osimhen due to his undeniable technical abilities, strength in the air, and his suitability for manager Jurgen Klopp’s aggressive high-pressing and direct style of play.

Gazzetta also mentions that Klopp is considering Osimhen based on the struggles faced by Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo at Liverpool. Nunez, the club’s record signing last summer, scored only nine league goals, while Gakpo, who scored seven goals in 26 appearances, is not a natural striker.

It remains uncertain whether Osimhen would be willing to give up Champions League football with Napoli for a Europa League campaign with Liverpool.

Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, is reportedly in regular communication with De Laurentiis, who is eager to secure the striker with a new contract.

Manchester United, also in search of a new striker this summer, has shown interest in Osimhen, along with Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.

Furthermore, Paris Saint-Germain, the French giants known for their significant spending, have already lost forward Lionel Messi to Inter Miami and may potentially sell star striker Kylian Mbappe, opening the door for a possible move for Osimhen.
