Lagos boy with missing intestine dies, Sanwo-Olu mourns failure to save him

On Wednesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State expressed deep sorrow regarding the passing of 12-year-old Adebola Akin-Bright, a young boy who suffered from a missing intestine. Despite receiving medical treatment for several months, Akin-Bright tragically passed away while admitted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Tuesday.

In a condolence message conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the boy’s demise as an immensely painful loss, not only to the family and friends of the deceased but also to himself personally and the entire state of Lagos.

The governor emphasized the heartache of Akin-Bright’s death, considering the diligent efforts put forth by the Lagos State Government to save the young boy. He extended his sympathy to Akin-Bright’s family and friends, with special recognition for his mother, Deborah Abiodun, who exhibited unwavering maternal dedication to save her son’s life.

Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the medical team at LASUTH for their tireless efforts in providing the best possible medical care to Akin-Bright during his prolonged treatment before his unfortunate passing on Tuesday evening.

The governor shared his sentiments, saying, “I am saddened by the death of Adebola Akin-Bright, a promising 12-year-old boy who died at LASUTH after months of medical treatment to save his life.” He also emphasized his personal commitment, along with the medical team, to do everything humanly and medically possible to save Akin-Bright.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his sadness over the loss despite the extensive efforts made by Deborah Abiodun, the medical team at LASUTH, and the Lagos State Government, saying that Adebola’s death is a deeply personal and painful loss for him due to his dedication to saving the boy.

He acknowledged that Akin-Bright’s absence will be deeply felt by his family, particularly his loving mother, who exhibited the qualities of a devoted mother in her efforts to save her child. The governor concluded by praying for God to grant Adebola’s mother and the entire family the strength to cope with the irreplaceable loss they have endured.
