Kanu Nwankwo, the legendary Arsenal player, is poised to assume the role of chairman at Enyimba, a club in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Recent reports indicate that the board of the People’s Elephant was dissolved by the Abia State Government last week.
For over 23 years, football administrator Felix Anyansi-Agwu had been leading the team, overseeing the club’s triumph in nine NPL titles and two CAF Champions League titles.
According to Daily Post, Kanu, a former Premier League champion and renowned figure at Arsenal, has been designated for the position.
Enyimba is set to participate in the CAF Champions League in the upcoming season.
Soccernet reveals that the players and officials of the reigning NPFL champions are already anticipating working under the leadership of the two-time Africa Player of the Year awardee.
Additionally, the 46-year-old Kanu will reunite with his former national team colleague, Finidi George, who serves as the club coach.
Both players were part of Louis van Gaal’s Ajax team that clinched the UEFA Champions League title in 1995, securing a 1-0 victory against Serie A side AC Milan at Ernst-Happel Stadium in Vienna.
