Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, has provided reassurance that President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda is genuine and aligns with the nation’s best interests. Fagbemi conveyed this assurance on Saturday during a reception organized in his honor by friends and associates in Abuja.
The AGF urged Nigerians to extend their support to facilitate the achievement of President Tinubu’s objectives. He depicted the President as a true democrat committed to serving the welfare of Nigerians and steering the country towards progress.
“Taking into consideration his past achievements while governing Lagos State, it’s clear that he’s a leader to collaborate with. The strength and influence of a minister or worker depend on the intentions of the one who appoints them; this is a factor that puts me in a favorable position.
“I am not anticipating an absence of disputes or misunderstandings. Indeed, they will arise. It won’t be a journey without challenges, but I pray that the light shines brightly, resiliently, and unceasingly,” Fagbemi remarked.
Expressing gratitude to his colleagues for their support since his appointment as Minister of Justice, Fagbemi vowed not to disappoint them. “I’ve listened to your words, advice, and promises. I hold onto them. So, if I falter, we all share the responsibility, and I am determined not to fail.
“I aspire to succeed, and I am deeply moved by your commitment. I know that you are individuals of substance and seriousness. I comprehend your principles and capabilities,” he emphasized.
Fagbemi, while praising Tinubu’s virtues, believed it wouldn’t be challenging to persuade his principal to uphold the rule of law since he embodies true democratic values.
During the event, Wole Olanipekun, the chairman, described Tinubu as a leader with a receptive attitude and great respect for members of the legal profession. Olanipekun expressed confidence that, given the AGF’s diligence and brilliance, he would adeptly navigate the political complexities and obstacles surrounding his role.
Adegboyega Awomolo, Chief, advised the minister to cultivate absolute trust in his principal and be cautious of the actions of civil servants in the Ministry of Justice.
Akin Olujinmi, a former AGF, advised the justice minister to seek divine wisdom in managing the relationship between fellow ministers in the Federal Executive Council and lawyers appointed to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
