Impersonation: Peter Okoye threatens lawsuit against Polaris, Access banks

Peter Okoye, a well-known Nigerian singer and internet personality, who goes by the name Mr P, has issued legal threats against Polaris and Access banks.

In the past year, Okoye had raised concerns about how cybercriminals were exploiting his identity to defraud individuals on the internet.

DAILY POST reported that Okoye has been running a lottery program using his name, which unfortunately led to fraudulent individuals also using his name for scams.

Expressing his frustration on both his Instagram page and his official X handle, Okoye questioned why banks would allow individuals to open accounts under his name without proper verification.

He shared images of the banks in question and warned that he would take legal action against them for the damages incurred. He also indicated his intention to call out more banks involved in such activities.

Okoye’s statement read: “I’ve had enough. This seems to be an inside job or something else. I have a reputation to uphold and a duty to protect innocent victims. I’m prepared to take action alongside my legal team.

“How can @polarisbankltd and @myaccessbank permit someone to open an account using the name ‘PETER OKOYE PSQUARE’ without valid identification, BVN, biometric data, verified address, or even utility bills to match the account’s address? Now they’re using my name to deceive innocent people. I’m pursuing legal action against this bank for the damages. @officialefcc, please take note.”
