Dele Momodu, the Director of Strategic Communications for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has expressed his wish to expel Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if he had the authority.
Although Momodu desires to remove Wike from the PDP, he did not object to Wike’s ministerial appointment by President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Political Paradigm’ program aired on Tuesday, Momodu stated, “I don’t have the power, if I had the power, I would have fired him (Wike) long ago.”
Wike had previously challenged his own party, the PDP, inviting them to take action against him through suspension or disciplinary measures. He asserted that he had not encountered a party leader with the authority to suspend or expel him from the PDP.
Wike also claimed to be working for President Bola Tinubu rather than the All Progressives Congress.
When asked about his reasoning for wanting to expel Wike from the party, Momodu responded, “Such a disruptive individual who wishes to harm our party? One person cannot hold everyone hostage. If we fought against the military, Tinubu was among those who fought against the military in this country, and now you would allow a civilian dictatorship?”
Before the 2023 elections, Wike and four other former governors, collectively known as the G-5 within the PDP, withdrew their support for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, due to disagreements over power-sharing within the PDP.
