I would have stayed with my husband if we had children – Toke Makinwa

She revealed this on her podcast and emphasized that she holds no judgment against women who choose to remain in unhealthy marriages for the sake of their children. Makinwa explained that she might have done the same in such a situation because she wouldn’t want to subject her children to the trauma of a broken home.

The media personality stated, “Many women stay in troubled marriages for the sake of their children. Often, you hear women say things like, ‘the marriage is over, but I’m only staying for my kids.’ To be honest, if I had children while I was married, I might have been one of those women.”

Drawing from her personal experience of losing her parents at the age of eight and constantly wondering how her life would have been if they were still alive, she expressed her desire to spare her children from a similar experience.

She said, “Because I also experienced the trauma of losing both parents when I was eight years old. I mean, I was adopted, and I have a wonderful life, for which I’m grateful. However, there were times when I wondered what life would have been like if that hadn’t happened. So, for the sake of my children, I might have compromised in order to give them both a mother and a father. I might have been one of those women. So, I’m not here to judge anyone.”

Additionally, Makinwa admitted that if she were in that situation now, with the knowledge and wisdom she has gained over the years, she would likely make different decisions.

“I was young at the time. If I were the age I am now, I might not have made many of the decisions I made back then because I’m now wiser and have a better understanding of life,” she added.

Makinwa married fitness entrepreneur Ayida in 2014, but their marriage reportedly ended in 2017 due to allegations of infidelity on his part.
