Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, who holds a Guinness World Record, has asserted that she initiated the trend of Nigerians striving to break Guinness World Records. Despite not being the first Nigerian Guinness World Record holder, Hilda firmly believes she is a “trailblazer” and played a significant role in fueling the trend of Guinness World Record attempts in the country.
During a recent interview with CNN, Hilda, who currently holds the record for the longest cooking marathon in the world, stated that her influence extended beyond inspiring Nigerians attempting to break Guinness records. She claimed to have motivated individuals in various sectors as well.
Hilda expressed, “I believe I started a trend and acted as a trailblazer because only a trailblazer initiates something that others aspire to do. It was a success, executed properly, and witnessing its impact has inspired others to say, ‘I want to try this too.’ It signifies that I have sparked something.”
She further added, “On social media and in the news, people can see others attempting to break Guinness Records. Additionally, individuals are striving to overcome barriers in their personal lives and businesses. Therefore, I believe I have inspired numerous people to surpass their own limitations.”
It is worth mentioning that Hilda Baci organized a well-known Cook-a-thon challenge in Lagos in May, aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. In June, she received official certification from the Guinness World Records, thereby dethroning India’s Lata Tondon.
