A human rights group has raised concerns about the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, addressing a press conference on the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, without the availability of an autopsy report. Mohbad’s body had been exhumed for the purpose of conducting an autopsy.
In response, Save The Poor And Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI) expressed dissatisfaction with the statement made by the Lagos CP during the press conference. The group, in a statement signed by its President, Comrade Yemi Bello, criticized the CP’s statement as being hasty and deflecting from the issue at hand.
SPANCI acknowledged the efforts of the Lagos state police command CP and commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for their investigation into the mysteries surrounding Mohbad’s death. However, they voiced their discontent with the Lagos CP’s decision to release a statement before the autopsy results were available.
The group raised questions about the circumstances leading to the premature statement, such as whether the Lagos CP was under pressure or received instructions to do so and from whom. They also questioned why the CP did not wait for the autopsy results before making a public statement, considering the global attention and scrutiny on the case.
Furthermore, SPANCI questioned whether the police’s investigative findings align with the decisions of the court and whether due process, including fair hearing and justice, were followed in investigating the allegations against Primeboy and Mohbad’s wife. They emphasized the need for further investigations to ensure that justice is served in the case.
Overall, SPANCI expressed concerns about the transparency and integrity of the investigation into Mohbad’s death, particularly regarding the timing and content of the Lagos CP’s press statement.
