Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has outlined the measures taken by the state to contribute towards closing the 50 percent education gap in the country.

Addressing the issue, Governor Obaseki emphasized the significance of addressing the 50 percent drop in the transition rate from primary six to SSS1, stating that it remains a critical challenge in the education sector. The governor stated that Edo State has established parameters to tackle this gap, with a specific focus on strengthening foundational learning.

Governor Obaseki attributed the existing gap to a lack of effective communication and a warm relationship between primary schools and secondary schools. He highlighted the need to bridge the divide between primary education, junior secondary education, and senior secondary education.

In addition, Governor Obaseki announced that any student from Edo State who achieves a first-class result will be guaranteed automatic employment.

Furthermore, the governor emphasized the state’s support for vocational training and its partnerships with various companies in the field of technology. Edo State is actively involved in training young students in technology and entertainment-related fields.

Governor Obaseki also highlighted the state’s investment in communities, providing them with resources, and resulting in a significant reduction in crime rates and acts of violence.
