Challenging Season for Aribo at Southampton, He Opens Up on Frustrations
Nigerian midfielder, Joe Aribo, has acknowledged the difficulties he faced during his first season with Southampton. Aribo made the move to the Saints following his impressive performances for Scottish Premiership giants, Glasgow Rangers. However, the 26-year-old endured a tough campaign at the South Coast club, scoring only twice in 21 league appearances. Southampton also suffered relegation from the Premier League, adding to the challenges.
In a review of the past season on the Planet Sport Football Africa podcast, Aribo expressed his frustration, saying, “For me, it was very frustrating. It was tough because I had high expectations for myself. I wanted to perform well and make an immediate impact in a new challenge. However, I didn’t feel like I got the opportunity to do that, and it was really frustrating. It was a season of learning.”
Despite the challenges, Aribo acknowledged that there may be a reason behind his experience. He said, “I believe that God has a purpose in putting me in this situation, even though I may question it now. We have to put our faith in God and trust.”
There have been speculations linking Aribo with a return to Rangers.
