EXCLUSIVE: How Nigerian Socialite, Bola Shagaya Children’s Company, Octavus, Sold Contaminated Aviation Fuel To Max Air, Leading To Grounding Of Airline

  • Post category:Fraud

Max Air, a Nigerian private airline, has confirmed that it received contaminated fuel from Octavus Company, which resulted in the grounding of its 5N-MHM aircraft and led to sanctions from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

An internal memo from Max Air, dated July 9 and signed by Mubarak Haladu, the Head of Maintenance, addressed the issue of “fuel contamination” and stated that they have decided to suspend taking fuel from Octavus until further notice pending internal investigations and satisfactory auditing of fuel marketers.

Octavus, run by Sheriff Shagaya and one of his sisters, who are children of Nigerian businesswoman and socialite, Bola Shagaya, has been identified as the source of the contaminated aviation fuel. Attempts to cover up the incident are alleged.

Max Air ceased its domestic operations indefinitely after the suspension by the NCAA. The regulatory agency directed the suspension of Parts A3 and D43 regarding the operation of Max Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft type. The airline’s domestic activities would remain suspended until the regulatory agency lifts the ban.

The suspension was due to several occurrences involving Max Air’s Boeing B737 aircraft, including the loss of a main landing gear wheel, fuel contamination, aborted take-off, and an air return. The NCAA formed a team of inspectors to conduct an audit of Max Air.
