Demolition: Protesters back Wike, warn Tinubu’s ministers to deliver or resign

  • Post category:Politics

A group of pro-democracy demonstrators rallied in support of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, regarding his warning about demolishing unauthorized structures in the FCT. They emphasized that Wike’s intention was to ensure due process and not to incite fear among Nigerians.

Wike’s recent announcement had raised concerns among FCT residents, drawing comparisons to the demolition approach taken by former FCT Minister, Nasir El-Rufai, to improve Abuja’s urban landscape.

However, The Natives, a protesting group, stood with Wike, clarifying that his statement was simply a commitment to doing the right thing. During a press briefing in Abuja, the Coordinator of The Natives, Edward Smart, emphasized that Nigerians should not be afraid and that the country’s progress requires sacrifices.

Edward also urged the newly appointed ministers to diligently work towards fulfilling the President’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda. The protesters called on the President to hold the ministers accountable, urging them to resign if they fail to deliver results.

Addressing the ministers, the demonstrators emphasized the importance of working hard and meeting the expectations of the country. They stressed that the ministers should take inspiration from successful examples like Singapore, Rwanda, and China, and they encouraged a proactive approach to challenges. The group emphasized the need for job opportunities for the youth and overall national safety. They urged the ministers to innovate, reshape their departments, and create impactful legacies. If unable to deliver, they called for resignation.
