Dabota Lawson shares her experience dealing with the challenges of her unsuccessful marriage.

Dabota Lawson recently shared her experiences of dealing with the aftermath of her failed marriage to Prince Sunny Aku. In an interview on the TVC program ‘Your View,’ she discussed her tumultuous divorce in 2014 and how her parents reacted to the news.

During the interview, she revealed that her ex-husband later reached out to her to ask for forgiveness. Dabota explained, “He contacted me and apologized for many things, but I have moved on from that stage. I am not emotionally invested anymore, so I was able to forgive, and we have been fine since then.”

Furthermore, Dabota disclosed that she returned home to her parents after the divorce. Contrary to what one might expect, her Nigerian parents welcomed her with open arms and refrained from asking too many questions. She said, “My parents were thrilled to have me back; my father and mother didn’t probe. Nobody wanted to burden me, so I went home and everything was fine.”

The former beauty queen had a grand wedding with successful businessman Aku in December 2015, attended by numerous influential individuals. At the time, she was 23 years old, while her husband was 58 years old, resulting in a significant 35-year age difference. Despite criticism, Dabota firmly maintained that she married for love and disregarded the age gap as an issue.

Their daughter was born on October 8, 2016, but the following year, Dabota filed for divorce. Multiple reports indicated that the reason for their divorce was Aku’s existing marriage to another person when they tied the knot. Based on these grounds, she chose to annul the marriage.

In a 2018 post, Dabota expressed regret about getting married, stating, “I mostly regret ever getting married in 2014 (please refrain from discussing any lessons or benefits I gained from it). I hate the fact that I did it! PERIOD!”

Dabota gained prominence as a beauty queen when she participated in Nigeria’s Top Model competition in 2007. Two years later, she emerged as the winner of the Miss Nigeria Beauty UK pageant.
