Chinenyenwa ‘Chichi’ Desire Okoebor, a notable contestant from Big Brother Naija, has taken legal action against her fellow participant, Josephina ‘Phyna’ Otabor, for alleged defamation. The lawsuit carries significant weight, as Chichi seeks justice in court by accusing Phyna of tarnishing her character.
The basis for this legal action stems from statements made by Phyna during the recent BBN ‘Level Up’ reunion, which Chichi considers defamatory. In a heated argument on the show, Phyna accused Chichi of abandoning her ‘husband and children’ in Benin City, leading to the tragic death of one of her children. Phyna further reiterated these claims on her Snapchat, alleging that Chichi had poisoned her friend in Cyprus before departing.
However, both of these allegations were refuted by Chichi and her legal team, who found them to be false. Chichi’s lawyers have presented their terms, demanding that Phyna retract her statements on all her social media platforms, publish a retraction in three widely recognized newspapers, and pay ₦100,000,000 as compensation for damages.
The origin of these allegations can be traced back to pictures that circulated in January 2023, where Chichi was seen alongside a man and a toddler. These images led people to assume that the man was her husband and the child was her own. However, during the reunion show in June, Chichi clarified that she was neither married nor a mother. She explained that the man in the picture was her father’s youngest brother, not her spouse.
Chichi’s legal representatives argue that Phyna’s defamatory statements and accusations have had serious repercussions for the reality TV star, resulting in the loss of various endorsement deals and partnerships.
As of now, Phyna has not publicly responded to the lawsuit filed against her.
