Brighton plot January move for Ndidi

Brighton & Hove Albion are considering the possibility of pursuing Wilfred Ndidi when the January transfer window opens in the New Year, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra. Ndidi, who has been experiencing a resurgence in the English Championship under manager Enzo Maresca, has not yet signed a new contract with Leicester City. Starting from January 1, 2024, he will be eligible to agree to join another club on a free transfer next summer.

According to football transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Brighton is in the early stages of planning a move for the defensive midfielder, who has excelled in his new role as No.8 at Leicester City.

Ndidi, the Nigerian midfielder, recently contributed with an assist and was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance in Leicester’s 4-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers last Sunday, which further solidified the Foxes’ position at the top of the Championship table.

During the last summer transfer window, Ndidi was linked with another Premier League club, Nottingham Forest, but the deal fell through as the Tricky Trees opted to sign Ibrahim Sangare instead.

Regarding Ndidi’s future at the club, Maresca mentioned that extending contracts for other squad members is currently not a top priority. When asked about contract renewals during a press conference on Wednesday, Maresca stated, “No. At this moment, we are focused on our season, our games. We have time to see it and decide. In this moment, the priority is not that.”

Among the players whose contracts expire next summer are Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton, Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Dennis Praet, and Alex Smithies.

Ndidi has an impressive record of 14 goals and 14 assists in 249 appearances for Leicester City.
