Boko Haram Commander Surrenders To Nigerian Security Forces In Borno

  • Post category:Insecurity

According to reports, two senior members of the Jam’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihd, commonly known as Boko Haram, have surrendered to the Nigerian military’s Operation Hadin Kai troops in Borno State. The individuals who surrendered were identified as Khaid Malam Ali and his subordinate, Bunu Umar.

The surrender took place following a raid by the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) on Boko Haram’s hideouts in Bula Alhaji Garwaye, located in the fringes of the Sambisa Forest near Bama LGA, on July 5, 2023. ISWAP successfully dislodged Ali and his fighters during the operation, resulting in the death of many Boko Haram fighters, including women and children associated with the group.

Khaid Malam Ali was reportedly a commander of the terrorists in Sabil Huda and Njumia. He decided to lay down his arms due to the fear of being eliminated on the battlefield. It is believed that he and his fighters were forced from their positions by ISWAP after planning a raid on Boko Haram’s hideouts in Bula Alhaji Garwaye.

During the operation, several Boko Haram fighters, along with their wives and children, were killed. These developments represent a significant blow to Boko Haram, as the surrender and dislodgement of key members weaken their ranks and further fragment the group.

It’s important to note that the situation is dynamic and subject to further updates from official sources.
