Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or Award.

Asisat Oshoala, the Nigerian football star and Super Falcons forward, has been included as a nominee for the esteemed 2023 Ballon d’Or Award. France Football, the organizing body of the award, announced her nomination through their official Twitter account on July 7.

Oshoala has been shortlisted in the Socrates Award category, which acknowledges football champions for their exceptional acts of solidarity. She is one of five individuals vying for the award, which was established last year and named after the renowned Brazilian footballer, Socrates.

The nomination recognizes Oshoala’s remarkable contributions to her community through the establishment of the Oshoala Academy. The academy aims to provide top-quality football training and life skills education to its beneficiaries. It also empowers young women through sports, transforming them into role models and ambassadors within their communities.

The announcement also mentioned that nominees in other categories, including men’s, women’s, Yachine Trophy, and Kopa Trophy, will be unveiled on September 6.

Currently, Oshoala is in Australia with the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team, as they prepare for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. The Super Falcons are placed in Group B and will compete against Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland during the group stage of the tournament.
